Essay Dojo

Pick an essay type and write. Each sentence is colour-coded as you type, and each required section (a "move") lights up when the Dojo detects it. Hover or tap a highlighted sentence to see why it got that colour.

Mode
How the Dojo reads your writing
  1. It is a style and structure coach, not a grammar checker. It flags vague, clichéd or evidence-free sentences, and a few mechanical slips (missing capitals, repeated words, stray spaces). Run a spell-check as well before you submit.
  2. Colours rate each sentence. Green = specific and evidenced (numbers, names, action verbs); blue = sound; amber = vague, hedged or long; red = cliché or no substance. Hover or tap any sentence to see exactly why.
  3. Moves are the sections panels expect. Each lights up in the left column when the Dojo detects it. Guided build walks you through them one at a time.
  4. Meters sum it up. Specificity (evidence), Structure (moves covered), Clarity (length, passive voice, filler), Originality (clichés), Length (against the usual word limit).
  5. You do the rewriting. Nothing is changed for you — edit your draft until sentences turn green. Write in your own words: funders check for copied and AI-generated essays.

Rewrite Arena

1/5

You rewrite the weak sentence in the box. Your version turns green when it is specific: an action you took, a number, and a named place or organisation — with no clichés.

Word Budget Sprint

Cut this 68-word paragraph to 40 words or fewer without losing the facts marked in bold.

In the year of 2023, I was basically the only engineer who was working at a cooperative of 40 farmers in Benue State, and I noticed that a very large amount of our tomatoes, around 30%, were actually rotting before they could reach the market, which was a really big problem for all of us. So I designed a solar dryer.

Funding routes

Scholarships are one of twelve ways to pay for study abroad. Tick a step when you've done it — each step earns XP.

Scholar Stories

Scholars who won an award share how they did it. If a scholar has agreed to be contacted, you can reach out to ask about their application. Every story is checked before it is published.

Be kind and specific when you reach out, and never pay anyone who promises a “guaranteed” scholarship.
