Terms of use and disclaimers
Everything on this website is free and made for learning, teaching, research and public discussion. Using the website or any of its tools means you accept these terms. If you don't, please don't use them.
In short: the maps are not official surveys, the data are indicative and may be out of date, nothing here is professional, legal or investment advice, and inclusion of a place, organisation or person is not a claim that anyone did anything wrong. If something is wrong, or is yours and shouldn't be here, tell me and I will fix or remove it.

1. Who runs this
The website and tools are a personal, non-commercial project by Shagbaor Hycent Amool. They are not run by, endorsed by, or speaking for the University of Northern British Columbia, any employer, or any government, ministry or agency in Nigeria or elsewhere. Views and interpretations are my own. Names and logos of organisations are used only to identify them and remain their owners' trademarks.
2. Maps and boundaries
- The atlases are thematic maps for education and research. They are not official or cadastral surveys, were not produced by a registered surveyor, and are not issued or approved by the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation or any state survey office.
- International, state, LGA, reserve, basin and other boundaries come from open datasets (for example geoBoundaries, the World Database on Protected Areas, OpenStreetMap and HydroBASINS). They are approximate, simplified for display, and carry no authority. They do not express any view on the legal status of any territory or on any boundary dispute.
- Points marked as approximate may be several kilometres from the real site.
- Do not use these maps for land transactions, boundary or ownership questions, legal proceedings, navigation, engineering design or safety decisions. For authoritative maps, contact the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation or the relevant state Surveyor-General.
3. Data, prices and alerts
- Data are compiled from public sources that are credited inside each tool. They can contain errors, gaps or outdated values, and they may change when sources are updated.
- Prices in the Market Atlas are indicative, taken from the dated source shown, and can differ from prices in any particular market on any particular day. They are not an offer, a quote, or trading or investment advice.
- Flood and weather information is a summary of public forecasts and is not an official warning. Always follow the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), NEMA, your State Emergency Management Agency and local authorities.
- Energy, water, forest and market figures are not certified statistics and are not official figures of the National Bureau of Statistics or any agency, unless a value is labelled with that agency as its source.
- The assessment tools (Techno-Economic Studio, EIA Studio, Symbiosis Workbench and others) use general default values for learning. They do not replace a professional study, a licensed engineer, or the laws, standards and permits that apply to a real project.
4. Places, organisations and people
- Waste sites are locations where satellite imagery or a report shows visible waste on the date given. Showing a site does not mean that any person, community, company or government body broke the law or is responsible for it.
- Threats, incidents and spills shown in the forest and water atlases are reproduced from the cited source (for example a published study or an agency register). They are that source's record, not my finding, and they may be disputed or out of date.
- Creators and public figures in the Nigeria Literature Landscape are drawn from public sources such as Wikidata and Wikipedia. Inclusion, ranking or follower counts are not an endorsement or a judgement of anyone's work or character.
- Anyone who believes a description of them, their organisation or their community is inaccurate or unfair can ask for a correction or removal.
5. Peoples, cultures and heritage
Information on peoples, languages, festivals, traditional rulers and heritage is indicative and summarised from the sources cited. Homelands and language areas overlap and are drawn only roughly. Nothing in the atlas takes a position on the origin, ownership of land, chieftaincy, or status of any group, and no group is ranked above another. Communities are welcome to send corrections, preferred names or spellings.
6. Sensitive locations
The atlases show only information that is already public. They are not designed to locate military or security installations (any mention comes from a cited public list, such as a flood-risk community list or an agency register), and infrastructure such as power plants, refineries and pipelines is marked only at approximate site level. If you believe any location should not be shown for safety or security reasons, please contact me and it will be generalised or removed while I review it.
7. Community reports and submissions
Some tools let you send field reports, dumpsite reports, prices or suggestions. By sending one, you confirm that:
- it describes what you observed yourself, and is accurate to the best of your knowledge;
- it does not accuse a named or identifiable person, company or community of a crime or wrongdoing, and does not include anyone's personal details;
- any photo is your own, and does not show identifiable people without their permission;
- it does not include material copied from others without permission.
Reports are shown as unverified until checked. I may edit, hide or remove any submission, without notice, for example if it is inaccurate, unfair, unsafe or breaks these rules. You keep any rights you have in your submission and allow it to be shown and shared on this website under the licence stated in that tool.
8. Copyright, licences and credits
- Text, code and designs written by me are © Shagbaor Hycent Amool. Datasets I compiled are shared under the licence stated in each tool (usually CC BY 4.0); please credit the tool when you reuse them.
- Third-party data and imagery remain under their owners' licences and are credited in each tool, including: map data © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL); Wikidata (CC0); Esri, NASA, ESA/EOX, Global Forest Watch, JRC and other imagery providers named on each map.
- Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons or other openly licensed sources. Each remains under its own licence; the photographer and licence are shown with the photo or on its linked file page.
- Links to documents, videos and websites point to their original publishers. Check the publisher's terms before reusing their material.
9. Corrections and removal requests
If something is inaccurate, unfair, unsafe, or uses material you own without permission, email amool@unbc.ca with:
- the page or tool, and the item (a link or screenshot helps);
- what is wrong, or what you own and how;
- a source or evidence, where you have one.
I aim to reply within seven days. Copyright and safety concerns are usually taken down first and reviewed afterwards.
10. No warranty and liability
The website and tools are provided free, “as is” and “as available”, without any warranty of accuracy, completeness or fitness for a purpose. You use them at your own risk and are responsible for checking information before acting on it. To the extent the law allows, I am not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the website, its tools, its data, or third-party content and services it links to or uses.
11. Changes and contact
These terms may be updated as the tools change; the date at the top shows the latest version. How personal data are handled is explained in the privacy notice.
